Introduction
For me, on Remembrance Day, one man I have never met, has personified the young lives sacrificed in service to their country. That man is my uncle, Flying Officer Douglas Fraser Grose, who was killed when his aircraft, a Consolidated Liberator, ditched in the Indian Ocean on April 22, 1945, just months before the end of the war with Japan. As a youth, like many of his generation, he was a stamp collector. He never got the chance to return to that hobby, but this common interest has inspired this philatelic memorial intended to preserve some details of his life and of his era, and to express my gratitude for the service and sacrifice made by him and many others like him.
