Biography
Douglas Fraser Grose was born in South River, Ontario on August 18, 1925. His father worked for the railway and relocated to Thorold where Douglas attended Thorold High School, graduating in April, 1943 and enlisting in the R.C.A.F. the following month.

Douglas and Edgar Grose are photographed on a plow horse probably in the mid-1930's, likely at Skibo Farm near
Iron Bridge, Ontario where they spent many summers. The farmer behind the plow may be their uncle, Neil Draper.

After basic training, he trained as a Bomb-Aimer/Air Gunner at Mountain View, Ontario, qualifying on November 29, 1943. From there he trained as a navigator at Chatham, N.B. and Summerside, P.E.I. before being posted for operational training to 111 O.T.U. in Nassau, Bahamas beginning on August 22, 1944. In January 1944 he flew to the United Kingdom for additional training. in March he flew to India to begin duties as a navigator on Liberators with the R.A.F.'s 354 Squadron flying out of Cuttack. Official records state that he died on April 22, 1945 when the aircraft on which he was a crew member experienced multiple engine failures and ditched in the Bay of Bengal. He has no known grave but has his name inscribed on coloumn 456 of the Singapore Memorial at the Kranji War Cemetery in Singapore.
